1978 Dodge Little Red Express
Because of a loophole in the emissions regulations, the 1978 Dodge Lil' Red Express Trucks did not have catalytic converters. What the Lil' Red Express did have was a special High Performance 360 C.I. 4-barrel small block engine, code EH1. A modified version of the 360 police engine (E58) producing 225 net horsepower @ 3800 RPM. The package also included Hemi style mufflers with a crossover pipe breathing through 2" chrome stacks located behind the cab, a special 727 transmission, and 3.55:1 rear gearing.
Due to being a rare truck, with a mere 2,188 units produced in 1978, we wanted to stay very close to original on this build. The engine was resealed and repainted factory colors.
The exterior of the truck was painted the original Bright Canyon Red, and new gold decals were applied on the doors, fenders, and tailgate. To not lose the originality in the interior, but add modern functionality and convenience, a center console was added to house a modern radio, speakers, and cup holders. New carpet was installed. All other interior parts were thoroughly cleaned. All bed wood was replace with oak, and coated with several coats of urethane clearcoat.
